Overview

How to Host Your Own VR Family Night

Step 1: Schedule Your Event

  • Confirm the date, time, and location for your event.
  • Gather all necessary supplies: laptops, projectors, projection screens, connecting cables, tables, chairs, microphones, extension cords, headsets, and any other essentials.

Step 2: Plan Logistics

  • Organize event logistics in a detailed document, similar to this example. Include:
    • A list of students who will present.
    • Links to their projects.
    • The presentation order.
  • Prepare students for their presentations by coaching them on:
    • Stating their name, grade, and project title.
    • Explaining their code and what it does.
    • Practicing how to present their projects clearly.
    • Answering audience questions.
  • Reserve seats as needed and create signs to mark them.

Step 3: Advertise Your Event

  • Spread the word to families, the school, and the community. Use tools like newsletters, flyers, websites, and school notifications.
  • Highlight special features such as raffles, food, or guest speakers to increase interest and attendance.

Step 4: Showtime!

  • Ensure all materials are ready and organized:
    • Label and charge all electronic devices ahead of time.
    • Have index cards available to help students during presentations.
  • Assign a point person to manage:
    • The agenda and announcements.
    • Technology and presentation flow.
  • Most importantly, have fun!
  • After the event, don’t forget to share photos on social media and tag Hello World Computer Science. We’d love to reshare and feature your event!
